Thief targeting minor girls held

Hyderabad: A thief who has been stealing valuables of minor girls since 2012 was arrested by Kachiguda police on Friday. Police said that 28-year-old Ravi Kiran, a resident of Ratna Nagar in Kachiguda, had committed 150 such offences.
He would select areas near schools where there were no CCTV cameras and would target girls in the 10-12 age bracket.Once he would identify girls wearing gold ornaments such as earrings, he would gain their confidence by introducing himself as their father's friend.
He would then tell them that an acquaintance was giving a scholarship. After asking the girls to walk with him, he would tell them that if the scholarship provider saw the girls with the ornaments, they would not get the amount.
He would then take their gold valuables for 'safe-keeping'. Once in possession of their valuables he would flee the spot. After Ravi's arrest, Rs 7.10 lakh cash was seized from his possession.
