Nazri resort gets GCZMA notice

Panaji: Goa coastal zone management authority (GCZMA) has issued notices to Calangute-based Nazri beach resort regarding an alleged illegal construction and, in another case, to occupants of 121 illegal hutments on Baina beach.
Activist Kashinath Shetye had complained against the illegal construction of the mega project in Calangute in land under survey No.
319/2, 3,4,7 and 12 in alleged contravention of CRZ notification 2011 and without obtaining prior approval from the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF).
An earlier notice to M/s Elite Builders, a partnership constructing the project did not draw any response. GCZMA then issued the notice, fixing a site inspection on May 25, 2016.
In the other case, GCZMA issued the occupants of shanties on Baina beach and set them time till June 10 to reply to it.
Mormugao deputy collector had identified 121 illegal structures along the coastline at Baina, which were located a few metres from the surf zone.
The report was submitted to GCZMA, which was taken up for discussion during its meeting and a decision finalized to issue show cause notices.
Earlier, over 200 illegal shanties on Baina beach had been demolished under heavy police bandobast in three phases in 2015, amidst protests and opposition from the occupants.
The occupants had alleged that they were rendered homeless due to the demolition and had demanded rehabilitation.
