Dutee Chand led an Indian medal sweep in the women’s 200m at the Taiwan Athletics Open here on Friday but her timing was slower than her recent Federation Cup performance in New Delhi.
Dutee, who won the 100m on Thursday, clocked 23.52s for the 200m gold while her teammates Srabani Nanda and H.M. Jyothi, who had helped India break the national 4x100m relay record in Beijing early this week, took the silver and bronze.
The Rio Olympics qualification standard in the event is 23.20s.
Kripal Singh and Arjun won the gold and silver in men’s discus throw while D. Arivuselvam took the men’s triple jump bronze with 15.62m.
Omprakash disappoints Meanwhile Omprakash Singh, the national record-holder with 20.69m which came in 2012 and the winner of the first Indian Grand Prix in Delhi with a 19m effort, was far from his best as he took the men’s shot put silver with a disappointing 17.85m.
The result: (Indians only):
Men: Triple jump: 3. D. Arivuselvam (15.62m). Discus : 1. Kripal Singh (58.20m), 2. Arjun (55.50). Shot put: 2. Omprakash Singh Karhana (17.85m).
Women: 200m: 1. Dutee Chand (23.52s).
