Case registered against Shiv Sena leaders for insult to tricolour
PHAGWARA: Police have registered a case for insult to Indian tricolour during cremation of Shiv Sena leader Abhishek Batta on March 26. The case has been registered on the complaint of Sikh organizations who alleged that Batta’s body was wrapped in Tricolour by Shiv Sena activists as Batta was not cremated with state honours.
This is second case against Shiv Sena activists registered after Batta’s death in a road accident at Nawanshahr in the wee hours of March 25.
They had assaulted a man during a dharna on Nawanshahr - Chandigarh highway blocking the traffic, alleging that Batta was facing threats and accident was part of a conspiracy.
He was cremated on March 26 and his body was wrapped in tricolour by his supporters. Sikh organizations are demanding registration of a case against the Shiv Sena and it's leaders. After repeated representations to the police, a case was registered under section 2 of Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act 1971.
Phagwara SP Ajinder Singh said that they had registered the case against unidentified persons and the accused would be named during investigation.
