Looking for a cheap night out on the town? Then Zurich might not be the town for you. Frequent Marlboro smoker? Melbourne might get pricey.
A Thursday report from Deutsche Bank strategists Jim Reid and Sukanto Chanda shows just how expensive major world cities can be. And while New York City ranked near the top in many cost indexes — from a movie ticket to a five-star hotel room — some cities in Europe and Australia saw consistently higher prices.
As the report notes, Nordic-Scandinavian cities are "generally the most expensive in the world," but Sydney and London also necessitate "a bulging wallet."
*A cheap date is defined by Reid as "cab rides, dinner/lunch for two at a pub or diner, soft drinks, two movie tickets and a couple of beers."
