LOVERS of Nando's in Ireland are paying more for their “cheeky” meal than any other country in the world.

Customers here are paying 200pc more than the restaurant’s home country of South Africa, according to a study by money-saving site, Voucherbox.co.uk.

The Nando’s study investigated prices in 14 countries, basing the price on a normal meal consisting of a quarter chicken, two regular sides and soft drink.

The meal in Ireland costs €13.95 - €8.91 more than the price of €5.04 in South Africa.

The same meal costs €11.06 in the US while customers in the United Arab Emirates are charged €13.20, making it the second most expensive spot.

The UK was fourth in the 'ChickIndex', with customers paying €13.72 for the same meal.

Voucherbox UK Country Manager Shane Forster said: “With Nando’s announcing their new menu this month, we thought it would be interesting to look at how prices differ depending on where you are in the world.

"We already knew that Nando’s is the cheekiest meal on the high street, but customers might feel that they are taking the peri-peri as far as the differences in price are concerned.”

A Nando's spokesperson says: "Our prices vary between countries dependent on a number of different factors.  We launched a new menu in Ireland this week and no prices were increased."
