Germany coach Joachim Low has advised Mario Gotze to leave Bayern Munich in order to make the next step in his career.
Gotze, 23, is approaching the final year of his contract at Bayern and is widely expected to leave the Allianz Arena this summer.
The Germany forward has failed to play a leading role for Bayern in his three years at the club since his transfer from Dortmund.
He did not start in Pep Guardiola's side in any of their six Champions League semifinal legs against Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid during the Catalan's tenure, and only came off the bench as a late substitute in the four matches against the former two teams.
Last weekend, Gotze scored a brace in Bayern's final match of the Bundesliga season, his first competitive goals for the German champions since October 2015 when he sustained a muscle injury ruling him out until February.
Low, though, has stood by Gotze, who was on target at the Allianz Arena when Germany beat Italy in late March and scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final.
"His attitude is exemplary," Low said on Friday in an interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung. "There are other cases of players waning after a tournament and such a hype. I don't have that feeling with Mario. He will find a way through this situation."
Dortmund have already said they are open to re-signing Gotze, while some Liverpool players have said he would be welcome at Anfield, where his former coach Jurgen Klopp is currently manager.
Chelsea and Juventus have also been linked with the Germany international, and Low believes that the playmaker now needs to make the next step.
He said: "Generally speaking, sometimes a transfer can set free new energy. Look at Toni Kroos. He was top at Bayern, but made the next step at Real.
"What Mario needs is trust. He needs a coach who wants him on his team by all means. But that's no criticism of Bayern, let alone Pep Guardiola."
