Aanand L Rai on SRK's 'Fan': It's a part and parcel of life
Aanand L Rai (BCCL)
Aanand L Rai, the man behind successful films like 'Raanjhanaa', 'Tanu Weds Manu', 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' and 'Nil Battey Sannata', is all set to cast Shah Rukh Khan as a dwarf in his next film. The noted filmmaker exclusively spoke to Timesofindia.com about King Khan, bringing back the 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' jodi in 'Manmarziyan' and another ambitious project, 'Happy Bhaag Jayegi'. Excerpts from the interview:
For the first time, you are making a film with Shah Rukh Khan.
How did you convince him to play a dwarf?
There is nothing more than a story. What an actor, director or the audience require is a good story. It hardly matters if you have something very potent to talk about. It's the story that works for all of us. I am working hard and moving towards the final draft of it. I will not take more than a month and will be out with something.
After the box office debacle of 'Fan', do you think this film will be a game changer for SRK?
Shah Rukh is the most loved actor of the country. He is such an experienced artist. Whether a film works or doesn't work hardly matters as long as the efforts and the intentions are right. It's a part and parcel of life. You move on. It's ('Fan') one of his brilliant performances. These things hardly matter to person who is passionate and knows what he wants to do.

You are bringing back the 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' jodi of Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar in 'Manmarziyaan'. Tell us something about it.

It's a beautiful love story set in the heartland of Punjab. It is the story of today's boy and girl in the interiors of Punjab; it's a very contemporary, heart-wrenching and heartwarming love story.
Your next production is 'Happy Bhaag Jayegi'. Both Abhay Deol and Diana Penty are making a comeback with the film.
It's a fun-filled film with lots of romance and comedy. Abhay and Diana share a great chemistry on screen. It's an unusual, light-hearted film with different kind of romance. What I am very excited about is that all my films are clean, family films. It give me lots of happiness to see an entire family watching my films together.
An actor and actress you really admire at present.
I am really looking forward to work with Mr Khan because of the kind of person he is from within. He is such a genuine man. I enjoyed my journey with Dhanush and it was one of the finest journeys I've ever had. I had a great combination of Dhanush and Sonam, who is a dear friend. I am blessed in that way; we love each other mutually. I've had a great rapport with all my actors. I have to be emotionally attached to my actors to be able to extract something which can be regarded as one of their best performances.

Confirmed! Shah Rukh Khan to play a dwarf in Anand L Rai's next
