Student activist Lam warned against breaching service order

A former convener of the disbanded student activist group Scholarism, Ivan Lam, has escaped the prison after a magistrate gave him another chance to complete his community service order.

Lam had faced the prospect of going to prison as he did not perform his 80 hours of community service given after taking part in an unlawful assembly.

But Lam was remanded in custody two weeks ago after a probation report revealed he had not fully complied with the order.

A probation officer wrote to the court that the 21-year-old has a record of being late, disappearing and not answering phone calls from the probation service.

Sha Tin Court today warned him to complete the service or go to jail. Lam thanked the magistrate for giving him a second chance and said he will now complete the order without fail.—RTHK
