Girl rejects marriage proposal, murdered
Nashik: A 26-year-old youth from Nashik Road allegedly killed his girlfriend on Wednesday night for refusing his marriage proposal and subsequently attempted to kill himself with a sharp weapon. The suspect is currently admitted in a private hospital in Nashik Road.
The police said that suspect Shashikant Shantaram Tavare slit his girlfriend Jyoti Sudam Thete's (24) throat with a cutter and later tried to kill himself by cutting his wrist.

The incident took place around 8.45pm in a school in Palse village, 10km from Nashik city, near the girl's house. The couple entered the school premises when an argument broke out between them. It was then that Shashikant murdered the girl and later tried to kill himself.
Senior police officials said the exact cause of the murder would be known only after taking a statement from Tavare, who is currently recuperating in a private hospital.
Shashikant and Jyoti were having an affair but the latter's parents were against her marrying the boy, since she held an MBA degree while the boy supplied sand on a truck owned by him for a living. Senior inspector Pandharinath Dhokne of the Nashik Road police station said that by the time they rushed to the incident spot, villagers of Palse had already gathered there. Tavare has been booked on the charge of murder.
