Kalmar lands deal to heighten 3 quay cranes for DP World Antwerp

KALMAR, part of Cargotec, has won a contract to heighten three ZPMC ship-to-shore (STS) cranes operated by DP World Antwerp Gateway by seven metres a piece. The project is scheduled for completion during the second quarter of 2017.

The order comes as the Antwerp Gateway terminal is continuing its expansion in anticipation of significant growth in container movements and in response to the ever-increasing size of containerships, a Cargotec release said.

The service provider will be responsible for the planning, engineering and execution of the heightening, as well as commissioning of the project.

Technical manager at DP World Antwerp Gateway, Jef Lambregts, said the previous crane-heightening project was concluded with Kalmar earlier this year. "Upgrading our STS cranes in this way is vital to ensure we remain competitive and can continue to meet the demands of our shipping line customers."
