ACB nabs official for taking Rs 1L bribe

Ahmedabad: A team of state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested district supplies officer (DSO) of Mehsana on Thursday evening for demanding and taking Rs 1 lakh bribe from a fair price shop owner.
The ACB team recovered the cash from the office of the accused. According to the ACB officials, a fair price shop owner had approached the agency earlier this month saying that B A Asari, DSO, Mehsana, had asked for money."The DSO visited the fair price shop and took the registers and other documents maintained by the owner. Asari also allegedly threatened to cancel his shop's license. When the complainant pleaded with him, Asari asked for Rs 1 lakh," said an ACB official.
A team from ACB Ahmedabad led by inspector R N Patel set a trap. The team visited the DSO office at collector office compound along with the complainant. When Asari talked about the money and received it at 6.30 pm he was caught red handed. The ACB said that they would launch an inquiry into Asari's property soon.
