Motor vehicle inspector arrested

At least 15 children from six districts suffering from club foot returned home cured from the disability rehabilitation centre at Phulbani in Kandhamal on Wednesday.

Police on Thursday arrested Nrusingha Charan Panigrahi, a junior motor vehicle inspector (MVI), Keonjhar, for allegedly issuing registration numbers of 15 ghost vehicles without inspecting the vehicles and verifying documents submitted for registration in 2011. On May 4, 2016, the regional transport officer (Keonjhar) had lodged a police complaint in this regard.
Earlier, police had arrested an agent, Manoj Sahu of Keonjhar, for his alleged involvement in the said case. Police are yet to arrest the main mastermind.
15 kids with club foot cured
At least 15 children from six districts suffering from club foot returned home cured from the disability rehabilitation centre at Phulbani in Kandhamal on Wednesday. District collector Yamini Sarangi distributed kits to each child before they returned home. Some of the children, aged between one year and 18 years, received treatment for up to two years.
4 undertrials escape, 3 held
Police managed to arrest three of the four undertrial prisoners, who had fled from the premises of a court in Bargarh on Thursday. Police said, "Manas Sahani(20), Jogendra Mallick (25), Bijaya Narayana Sahu (30) and Sanyasi Sahu (30), all from Kandhamal district, were arrested in connection with ganja trading at Barpali in February 2015. A vehicle was also seized from their possession." They had been lodged in the Bargarh jail. However, they managed to escape when they were brought to the court.
