Surat: A 15-year-old student of class IX ended his life in Limbayat area of the city after failing to get 80 per cent marks in the final examinations on Wednesday.
Jignesh Bagul, a resident of Chhatrapati Shivaji Nagar, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room by his parents. He had used a bedsheet to hang self from the ceiling fan. His father Mahendra took him to a hospital near Majura Gate, but he was declared brought dead.

Police investigation revealed that Jignesh, a student of Sun Grace High School, was upset as he could only score 70 per cent marks in the final examinations of class IX. His relatives informed police that he was expecting around 80 per cent marks.
Jignesh, son of a schoolteacher, got over 80 per cent marks throughout his life. He was confident of going into class X with high marks because he had worked really hard but in the end could score only 70 per cent which disappointed him a great deal, police informed.
Jignesh had the support of his family members and they never put any pressure on him for studies. However, Jignesh wanted to go for higher studies in some good institute and was preparing keeping that in mind. He had told his friends and relatives that he expected good marks in class IX. No one in the family ever thought that he would take such a step, police said.
"The family is in deep shock and we are yet to question them. We will register their statements once the last rites are over. Preliminarily, it seems less than expected marks made the boy to commit suicide," said D V Hadat, police sub inspector, Limbayat police station.
