: Stray incidents of violence marred peace in the rural areas of Kozhikode after the declaration of election results on Thursday. Attackers targeted a number of houses belonging to the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) workers in Onchiyam and Villiappally regions in Vadakara.

The police said three martyr’s columns and a library building constructed in memory of slain RMP leader T.P. Chandrasekharan were destroyed. The attackers also targeted a local office of the party in Onchiyam, they said.

Clashes broke out in Kuttiyadi, Nadapuram and Vadakara constituencies as well during the rallies taken out by the supporters of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian Union Muslim League and Bharatiya Janata Party.

Police officers from Vadakara station said a CPI (M) worker was hacked by suspected BJP activists during a procession at Iyyankode in Vadakara. M. Libeesh, who suffered injuries in the attack, was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College, they said.

At Ambalakkulangara in Kunnummal panchayat, three CPI (M) workers were injured in a country bomb explosion. According to police sources, C. Prasanth, 29, V. Babu, 40, and Ajith were injured when a group of unidentified men hurled crude bombs at them during a rally.

Hartal call

BJP leaders said they would observe a hartal in Vadakara Taluk on Friday in protest against the attack on their supporters in the area.
