Pune: A 26-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly strangulating his father in Indapur, around 140km from here, on Monday night over the latter's refusal to repay his debt.
Rahim Bandu Munde of Venkateshnagar in Indapur was arrested after his brother Shabbir lodged a complaint against him with the Indapur police station. As per the complaint, Rahim had incurred huge debt due to his addiction to liquor.
He had recently borrowed Rs 60,000 from one Vijay Chougule. "When Chougule asked him to clear the debt, Rahim approached his father Bandu Babulal Munde (60) and demanded money from him. However, the father refused to give him the money considering that Rahim was an alcoholic and also never helped in the vegetable supply business that Bandu used to run," Mahendra Nimbalkar, assistant inspector of the Indapur police station, told TOI.
On Monday night, the father-son duo had a quarrel over the same issue. "When Bandu did not return home till late at night, the family members, including his wife and two sons, started searching for him," Nimbalkar said.
"They found Bandu lying in an unconscious state near a municipal council school in Indapur," he said, adding that there were some injury marks on his body. "Shabbir immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors," Nimbalkar said.
During investigation, Shabbir told police that when the family members were searching for Bandu, Rahim had said he would be lying around somewhere," Nimbalkar said, adding that on the suspicion of Rahim's involvement in the case, he was picked up for questioning.
During interrogation,
Rahim admitted to killing his fatherof beating up his father and later strangulating him with a handkerchief, Nimbalkar added.
