Youth dies after speeding car falls into Sidhwan

A student died whereas two of his friends suffered injuries after the car they were riding at a high speed fell into Sidhwan Canal near Jhammat village on Thursday evening.

Ludhiana: A student died whereas two of his friends suffered injuries after the car they were riding at a high speed fell into Sidhwan Canal near Jhammat village on Thursday evening. The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Gurinder Singh of Mohi village in Mullanpur area who was a student of Guru Nanak Dev Homeopathic Medical College in Ludhiana whereas the injured youths were 23-year-old Karan Khajura of Rudrapur in Uttranchal and Karam Singh, 23, of Mullanpur.
Police officials said the trio were under the influence of liquor and were going towards Dhaka village in Mullanpur. They added that the deceased Gurinder who was behind the wheels lost control of Tata Indigo car while driving at a high speed.
Police sources said after hitting a bump on the road, the car first hit a big stone on the roadside and then it plunged into the Sidhwan canal near Jhammat village. They added that some onlookers spotted the car falling into the canal and rushed to the area to rescue the trio before informing the police.
Cops from Haibowal police station rushed to the spot.
Station house officer of Haibowal Amarjeet Singh said after the accident near Jhammat village, some onlookers and area residents managed to rescue the two youths, both of them students. He added that they even tried to rescue Gurinder Singh, but by then he had already died.
Police officials said that the accident would have consumed more lives had the car not slowed down after hitting a big stone on roadside before plunging into the canal. They added that the two students are out of danger at a nearby hospital where they were shifted after the accident.
