Day 1: PU paid parking gets mixed response
Chandigarh: The first day of paid parking at Panjab University on Thursday saw mixed reactions from both students and outsiders. While some considered it to be a good decision, others are strictly against the university implementing paid parking.
"We have so many students coming to the university for admission queries. I don't think it is a good idea to have paid parking on campus, "said Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) president Jasmeen Kang.
"Considering the fact that there have been superfluous movements on the campus, as an outsider I concede that the action taken by the authorities is legitimate and justified. It will help to reinstate decorum in the varsity," said Astha Arora, an engineer who works with a firm at IT Park.
While some seem to have liked the idea of paid parking on university campus, many are against the decision.
"Paid parking has been a big issue in Chandigarh and now it has come to the university. Panjab University has a lot of people associated with it. Parents and students will visit for admission queries. People also come for seminars and workshops that are regularly organized here. So, I am not in favour of this decision," said Prabhpreet, a student.
"I have come from Patiala for an admission enquiry. They have made me park my bike here. For students who have come for admission queries, parking should be free," said Shubham.
