Maverick Vinales replaces Jorge Lorenzo at Yamaha

Maverick Vinales will ride alongside Valentino Rossi at Yamaha for the next two MotoGP seasons.

Vinales, who currently races for Suzuki and lies fifth in the riders' standings, will replace three-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo at the Japanese Team.

Lorenzo is moving to Ducati at the end of the season where he will partner Andrea Dovizioso.

Ducati choose Andrea Dovizioso to partner Jorge Lorenzo

Vinales, 21, made his World Championship debut in 2011 in the 125cc class.

The Spaniard won the Moto3 title in 2013 as well as three 'Rookie of the Year' awards in 2011 (125cc), 2014 (Moto2) and 2015 (MotoGP).

Suzuki have announced Ducati's Andrea Iannone will replace Vinales at the team.

The Italian was fifth in the 2015 world championship, making the podium on three occasions.
