RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Thursday directed the Chakwal DPO to appear in person on May 20 after the police failed to produce two children in court.

LHC had earlier directed Dohman police to produce the two children — a two-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl — after their mother filed a petition stating her estranged husband was not allowing her to see them.

Earlier, Saima Bibi filed a habeas corpus petition stating that she has separated from her husband Zohaib, and he was not allowing her to see their children.

LHC Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin expressed his displeasure over the police’s failure to produce the children and directed Dohman SHO Inspector Raja Nazar Hayat and an ASI to furnish personal sureties.

The SHO and the ASI furnished their sureties before they left the court.

In his order, the judge said that the DPO needed to explain why the children were not produced before the court despite clear orders. The judge also directed the DPO to recover the children and produce them in court on May 20.

SHO Hayat told the court that they could not find the children at their father’s home in Chakwal. Instead, the police produced one of Zohaib’s relatives.

The petitioner has prayed to the court to recover her children from the custody of her husband.
