THANE: Two patients from the criminal ward of the Thane mental hospital managed to escape from the hospital premises thanks to the lax security. According to the police, the two inmates, Kashinath Pujara (28) and Sukhram Bhill (35) pretended to sleep in their ward on the first floor after their lunch on Wednesday afternoon.
The duo broke the ward lock and jumped out of an open window.
“The duo jumped from the window on the tree adjacent to it and managed to escape,” informed A D Kshirsagar, senior inspector at Wagle Estate.
The duo was admitted in March and since then were under observation. Bhill, a Jalgaon resident was booked under murder section in December 2015 by the Parola police station in Kulgain while the other accused is a Kulgaon resident and was booked under murder section a few months back. “We have informed the rural police stations,” added Kshirsagar.
The mental hospital authorities remained unavailable.
