KOZHIKODE: Violence erupted at various parts in Kozhikode rural police district limit after the declaration of election results. CPM, BJP, IUML and RMP workers clashed at different locations and over two dozen persons are injured in stone pelting, bomb hurling and other incidents.
RMP workers were attacked and memorials of slain RMP leader TP Chandrashekharan were attacked at different places in Vadakara- Onchiyam region.
TP Memorial at Vallikkad was defaced by pouring used engine oil (Kari oil) and two other memorials were vandalised at Onchiyam and Thattolithazham. TP Memorial reading room was also attacked allegedly by group of CPM workera.Stones were pelted at houses of RMP workers at Eranmala and Onchiyam.
Clashes erupted between BJP and CPM and CPM and IUM during victory processions by the CPM and IUML in Nadapuram, Vadakara and Kuttiady constituencies.
One CPM worker was allegedly hacked by a group of BJP supporters during a procession at Iyyangodu near Vadakara on Thursday afternoon. The injured was identified as M Libesh(24) hailing from Kallachi. Libesh is undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.
In another incident three CPM workers were injured as a country bomb was hurled against them at Ambalakkulangara. Police identified the injured as C Prashanth (28), Babu (40) and Ajit (23).
Stones pelting incidents were reported at Iyyangodu, Vanimel, Valayam and other places in the region. Many BJP workers also suffered minor injuries in stone pelting at Iyyangode.
IUML and CPM offices at Kottappally near Thiruvallur were attacked on Thursday evening. A police official with Vadakara traffic unit also was injured in the attack.
The BJP has declared a 12 hour hartal in Vadakara taluk on Friday in protest against attack on BJP workers.
