Responsibility of city gardens handed over to respective zone in Surat
SURAT: Following the reports of improper maintenance of three major gardens of the city, Surat Municipal Commissioner has handed over the responsibility of all the gardens of the city to the respective zones. From now on, it will be the seven zone and its officials would be responsible for looking after the gardens in their area. This responsibility was with garden and housing department.

Recently, number of complaints were received about the ill maintenance of three major gardens of the city namely Athwalines Chowpaty garden, Nana Varacha chowpaty garden and Bhestan garden. It was also complained by the citizens that these gardens are becoming the dens of anti-social elements of the area and people are unable to use them.
Number of complaints pointed to the bad tending of the lawns and flower plants and as a result majority of the plants were in bad shape in these gardens.
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has set up large number of gardens and shantivans in different parts of the city for the facility of citizens and their recreation .When they are not maintained properly , citizens don’t get the benefit of it and the facility is wasted.
Now , with the responsibility to the respective zones , it is expected that local area officials would keep a vigilant eye on the maintenance of these gardens.
