CHENNAI: Lobb, a technology-based platform to facilitate cargo bookings, on Thursday announced the launch of its services in Chennai. Truckers operating out of identified truck terminals in Chennai such as Madhavarum, Ambattur, Broadway and Avadi have come forward in large numbers to benefit from this initiative. Lobb acts as a platform to connect transporters and truckers and be a truck sourcing platform for inter-city operations.
The idea for Lobb germinated when its founders realised that the fragmented nature of the trucking industry and the inefficiencies inherent in freight negotiations and pricing transactions, made this space ripe for digital disruption.
The bootstrapped company is in discussions for funding with investors.
The company is currently receiving 15-20 daily requests for cargo transportation to Chennai and has several trucks registered on its platform operating between the city and its other operational hubs. Lobb is also receiving multiple load requests for its returning trucks and is expecting to register multi-fold growth in the city. With over 75,000 requests coming in on a monthly basis, Lobb is able to fulfil about 5%, indicating the growth potential for the business.
Venu Kondur, CEO, Lobb, said, “Chennai is strategically and economically one of the most important destinations for the Indian logistics industry. Not only does it house two major ports in Chennai and Ennore, but is also a prominent industrial hub for several industries such as automotive, petrochemicals, textile and apparel. As a result, it is today the third largest market for on-road logistics business after Mumbai and Delhi/NCR.”
With over 500 truckers and transporters using the Lobb application (web and mobile), Lobb provides real time match for requests made on the platform. Growing at 30 % month on month, the company has presence in metros and Bangalore, Coimbatore as of date.
