Man opens fire at relative's son's naming ceremony, injures girl In Etah
AGRA: Barely a couple of days after Amar Singh’s name was cleared for Rajya Sabha by the Samajwadi Party, tension prevailed between the families of Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh on Wednesday late night, when Mulayam’s son allegedly opened fired during a religious function at Amar Singh house. In the spirit of celebrations, Mulayam’s son (Dinesh) injured a girl who reportedly in critical condition.
Mulayam son was dancing to a popular item song ‘tamanchey pe disco’ when the incident happened.
In Kruwamai village of Marehra area, a farmer Amar Singh had organized a party after the naming of his son, which was attended by hundreds of villagers.
“During celebration a drunk youth identified as Dinesh Yadav who was dancing to an item song, pulled out his countrymade pistol and open fired in air, after which a stray bullet hit the forehead of girl named Saloni and left her unconscious in a pool of blood,” said a source.
Speaking to TOI, Naurangi Lal station officer of Marehra said, “We have arrested Dinesh along with his illegal .315 caliber gun and booked him under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and illegal arms act on the complaint received from victim’s father Chandresh Kumar.”
After the incident, heavy police force was deployed in the village to avoid any untoward incident.
By the time this report was filed Saloni, was kept on ventilator in ICU in private hospital of Agra.
This is not the first time, an indiscriminate gunfire at celebrations in Uttar Pradesh has killed people. Till now nine incidents of celebratory firing in Western UP have been reported in which six people have died.

-On May 9, a school going 12-year-old girl, lost her life after being hit by a stray bullet fired at the wedding ceremony at Binpur Kala village of Amapur area in Kasganj district.
-On May 5, 40-year-old man was killed in celebratory firing during a wedding ceremony in Jagdishpur village in Allahabad.
-April 23, two constables, including the groom, reportedly used a service pistol for celebratory firing that left a 22-year-old youth dead in Dehradun.
-April 19, nine-year-old boy died after he was hit by a bullet during similar celebratory firing at a marriage ceremony at Jhauwa village under the Bihia police station area in Bihar.
-April 16, a 16-year-old daughter of a tea stall owner succumbed to the bullet injuries while watching a wedding in her locality in Delhi's Rohini area
-On March 2, in Firozabad, a man whipped out his gun and shot at a disc jockey (DJ) for not playing ‘Tamanchey pe disco’ during a marriage ceremony.
-On March 20, a 12-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a stray pellet during celebratory firing at a birthday party in Khairagarh, Agra
-On March 19 in Celebratory firing at AMU after India cricket victory a student was critically injured.
-On March 8, 8-year-old killed in celebratory firing by SP workers in Shamli district
-On March 6, a cop was killed in celebratory firing in Mainpuri
-On March 6, a 12-year-girl died in celebratory firing Firozabad'
As per reports Uttar Pradesh accounted for two-thirds of deaths because of accidents caused by firearms in the period of 2005 to 2014.
In nine years period Uttar Pradesh reported 10,319 deaths by firearms followed by Madhya Pradesh 1,212, Chhattisgarh 1,065, Jammu and Kashmir 385, West Bengal 356, Delhi 308, Bihar 253, Punjab 223, Tamil Nadu 213, Karnataka 187, Haryana 155, Jharkhand 154, Assam 142 and Rest of India 623.
