Malaysia oil giant Petronas logs 71% Q1 profit plunge

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian state-run oil and gas producer Petronas saw its net profit decline 71% on the year to 2.67 billion ringgit ($662 million) for the January-March quarter on lower product prices and higher impairment costs.

However, the drop in first quarter earnings was buffered by foreign exchange gains and lower production costs, the company said in a statement Wednesday.
