As per the directives of the Delhi High Court, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Wednesday met double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar in a bid to sort out controversy regarding Rio Games quota berth amicably.

There Have been enough indications from the WFI top sources that "no trials would be conducted" whatsoever. Though, Sushil did appear optimistic saying, "I spoke to everyone and it was a positive meeting".

The meeting was attended by chief coach Jagminder Singh, vice president I.D. Nanavati, secretary general VN Sood apart from the president. From Sushil's side, his father-in-law and mentor Satpal was also present.

"I asked Sushil Kumar what he would have done had he been in my position," said WFI president when asked about details of the meeting on Wednesday. Without going further into WFI's final stand on the ongoing issue between Sushil and Narsingh Pancham Yadav, Brij Bhushan concluded that now "this matter would be heard in the Delhi High Court".

Chances bleak

dna has learnt from the insiders that WFI is likely to attach a report from chief coach Jagminder along with it's own report after Wednesday's meeting during the next HC hearing on May 27.

"Ever since chief coach has taken over in the month of February, Sushil has not trained under him even for a day," stated the report stated.

Sushil, too, sounded confident after emerging from the meeting. "I have been receiving good support from across the country. People even from the US, Australia and Canada are supporting me. Throughout my career, I've got the training and exposure from the federation," said Sushil, adding: "Narsingh is like my brother. Unfortunately, situation is such that I have to fight for trial against him."

Sushil took a bronze in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and then silver in London in 2012 in the 66kg division, but this was abolished by the International Wrestling Federation (FILA) in 2014. This prompted him to move up to the 74kg weight category which brought him into direct competition with Narsingh, who was the top Indian wrestler in this class till then.

Meanwhile, WFI decision to not allow Sushil train in the ongoing camp in Sonepat would stand.
