STING derails attempt to revive popular drug dens in Langkawi

LANGKAWI: Polis thwarted an attempt to revive the popular drug dens in Bukit Malut and Taman Nilam here with the arrest of 89 people, four of whom believed to be drug pushers, in a special two-day operation, dubbed Ops Sarang, which ended Wednesday night.
Deputy Commander (II) of the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING), Bukit Aman, SAC Arjunaidi Muhamed, who led the operation, said police also seized 141.81gm heroin, 0.64gm ganja, 84.4gm syabu, two Yaba pills and 0.5 litre of ketum juice.
He said the four suspected drug pushers, age between 18 and 27, would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries a mandatory death penalty.
"Thirty-eight of the suspects will be investigated under other sections of the same Act, while 47 others will be sent to undergo treatment and rehabilitation," he said.
The operation was mounted with the cooperation from the Kedah Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, the National Anti-Drug Agency, National Registration Department and Immigration Department. — Bernama
