Two people have lost their lives after a suspected diarrhoea outbreak in Kotegowdanahalli village of Chamarajanagar taluk, according to reports reaching here on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Chikkatayamma (40) and Kenchegowda (65). According to reports, as many as 10 people took ill after consuming tap water mixed with sewage on May 8. This water had been supplied to the villagers for a week.
The matter was brought to the notice of the GP president and the secretary. The District Health and Family Welfare Officer, along with department staff, rushed to the village and shifted those affected to the Chamarajanagar District Hospital. Of those admitted, the victims were shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru for further treatment. However, the duo succumbed on Tuesday.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to their native village in Chamarajanagar.
The laboratory test of the contaminated water sample indicated that the sample contained some poisonous substance.
The villagers, holding GP and Health Department officials responsible for the deaths, urged the district administration to take action against them.
