57 per cent recorded in Tenkasi re-poll

Filing of nominations for the elections will begin on May 24, while May 31 will be the last date for filing of the papers.

TIRUNELVELI: The polling station at Tenkasi, where re-polling was held on Wednesday, polled 57 per cent.

Based on the complaint that the EVM used at the polling station functioning at Sri Ponnambalam Middle school in Tenkasi had around 30 un-erased votes polled during the mock poll, the election observer to the constituency and the district election officer jointly recommended to the EC to order re-polling in the particular polling station numbered 56. Following the recommendation, the EC announced re-polling as per the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The re-polling at the above polling station in Tenkasi constituency, which started at 7 am on Wednesday (May 18), went off peacefully, official sources said.
Of the total number of 972 votes in the booth, 555 (270 females and 285 males) were polled. When compared to the polling on May 16, the number of votes polled in the re-polling was lesser by 37 votes.
