9 irri projects in Vid get revised approval
Nagpur: The regulatory committee of water resources department has given revised administrative approval (RAA) to nine irrigation projects in Vidarbha and two in Marathwada. The total extra cost sanctioned by the WRD is over 2,100 crore. Of the nine projects approved by the committee, four are medium projects, four minor and one major inter-state Bawanthadi project. The eight projects are: Karajkheda lift irrigation scheme, Chinchdoh barrage, Katangi, Kalpathri, Zantamazri, Nagthana, Kohal and Jabnala.
The extra cost of these projects in over 2,080 crore.
Most of these projects are in tribal areas and will provide a major fillip to the region.
Two minor projects in Marathwada are in the Godavari basin - Navhal Gavhan and Bhendewadi Sathwan. They have been given revised administrative approval at the cost of about 24 crore.
The proposals were sent by the respective irrigation development corporations to the technical advisory committee. BJP-Shiv Sena government had given powers to the committee to provide RAAs on September 9, 2015. The was aim to expedite RAAs.
According to irrigation minister Girish Mahajan, his government had given RAAs to 109 projects. He claimed this would ensure all round development of backward regions of the state.
