Rosselkhoznadzor said Wednesday it will temporary ban imports of squash and pumpkins from Turkey starting May 19.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's agriculture watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said Wednesday it will impose temporary restrictions on imports of squash and pumpkins from Turkey starting May 19.

"Rosselkhoznadzor imposes from May 19 temporary restrictions on imports, including through third countries, of pumpkins, squash and other vegetables of the pumpkin family, originated in Turkey," the watchdog said in a statement.

Russian-Turkish relations deteriorated following the downing of a Russian Su-24 aircraft by a Turkish F-16 fighter in Syria on November 24, 2015.

Russia's retaliatory measures against Ankara include restrictions on the activities of Turkish organizations in Russia, prohibiting Russian employers from hiring Turkish citizens and a ban on certain food imports, including oranges, tangerines, tomatoes, apples, peaches, strawberries and most poultry products.
