Siddhanth Banthia in quarters

Top seeded Siddhanth Banthia of Maharashtra reached the boys’ singles quarterfinals of the 10th edition of MSLTA -Yonex Sunrise Ramesh Desai U-16 tennis national tournament being played and organised at the Dr GA Ranade Tennis complex at MSLTA in Mumbai.

PUNE: Top seeded Siddhanth Banthia of Maharashtra reached the boys’ singles quarterfinals of the 10th edition of MSLTA -Yonex Sunrise Ramesh Desai U-16 tennis national tournament being played and organised at the Dr GA Ranade Tennis complex at MSLTA in Mumbai.
In the boys’ singles, top seeded Banthia showed no mercy ousting Kevin Mrugesh Patel 6-2, 6-1.

Meanwhile, in the biggest upset of the day, second seeded Megh Patel of Gujarat conceded his match. Fourteenth seeded Ashutosh Tiwarri won as Megh Patel conceded at scores reading 6-7(4), 6-3. Unseeded Sanket Tomar of Chandigarh upset tenth seeded Rishabh Sharda of Delhi 7-6(3), 6-2 to move to the last eight stage.
Gujarat's 14 year Dev Javia who will represent India at the Road to Wimbledon this year in the boys’ section, played a close match to end the winning run of Arjun Honnappa of Karnataka winning 6-7(5), 7-5, 7-5 in a match lasting over 3 hours .
In the girls’ section, top seeded Sama Sathwika of Telangana scored a 6-4 ,6-2 win against Kritika Chhabra of Maharashtra to make the last eight stage.
Ninth seeded Prinkle Singh of Jammu & Kashmir carved out the biggest upset of the day by humbling sixth seeded Akanksha A Bhan of Gujarat 6-1, 6-4, while 11th seeded Dedeepya Sai of Telangana ousted fifth seeded Humera Shaikh of Andhra Pradesh 6-3, 6-4.
