The Match Factory has sold Marco Bellocchio’s “Sweet Dreams,” which opened Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, to more than 15 territories across the globe. The film stars Valerio Mastandrea and Berenice Bejo, who was Oscar nominated for “The Artist.”
“As a great admirer of Marco Bellocchio’s work, I am happy to work with him again since our first cooperation last year on the presentation of his remastered cult classic ‘Fists in the Pocket’ and ‘Blood Of My Blood’ in Venice Competition,” said Michael Weber, managing director of The Match Factory.
Based on the best-selling novel “Sweet Dreams, Little One” (Fai bei sogni) by Massimo Gramellini, “Sweet Dreams” is the story of a long search for the truth and the fear of discovering it.
Massimo’s (Mastandrea) idyllic childhood was shattered by the mysterious death of his mother. As he prepares to sell his parents’ apartment, he is haunted by his traumatic past. Compassionate doctor Elisa (Bejo) could help tormented Massimo open up and confront his childhood wounds.
The film went to the U.K. (Soda), Benelux (ABC), Scandinavia (Future), China (DDDream), Greece (Seven), ex-Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom), Hong Kong (Edko), Taiwan (Swallow Wings), Hungary (Cirko), Turkey (Filmarti) and Portugal (Alambique).

01 Distribution will release Sweet Dreams in Italy, and Ad Vitam in France.
Further territories including the U.S., Spain, South Korea and Japan are in negotiation.
“Sweet Dreams” is a production of IBC Movie and Kavac Film, in co-production with Ad Vitam, in association with RAI Cinema.
