Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has claimed the title of the largest scooter exporter in India, which was previously held by Hero MotoCorp. HMSI exported 1,03,242 scooters in the fiscal year of 2015-16, achieving growth of 32.68 per cent compared to the previous year. The company exported 77,814 scooters, compared to 79,956 units exported by Hero in FY2014-15. Back then, HMSI stood second to Hero MotoCorp in terms of scooter exports. Compared to the last financial year, Hero has experienced a mild drop of 3 per cent in YoY to Fy2014-15.
Hero MotoCorp is currently the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India. It also has a manufacturing facility in Colombia that was up and functioning by September 2015. The company currently exports to 30 international markets in Asia, Africa, and America.
HMSI, on the other hand, is the second largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the country and exports its products to 20 different countries that include Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
As for the other two-wheeler manufacturers in the Indian market, TVS reported export of 37,722 units as compared to 16,543 units in the previous fiscal year. The company had pretty much managed to double the figures in the exports department. However, it suffered a steep drop in the export of 70cc-90cc vehicles as it was able to achieve a figure of only 1,208 units in FY2015-16. On a similar note, Yamaha India has exported 22,263 units, almost triple of the previous fiscal year, while Suzuki reported 8,510 units in FY2015-16.
