Malayalam actress Mamta Mohandas has joined the sets of megastar Mammootty's upcoming movie, "Thoppil Joppan." The actress announced the news via her Facebook page on Tuesday, May 17.

Mamta will be seen in the role of a jovial medical student named Mariya and the actress is teaming up with the megastar after nearly two years. The duo previously shared screenspace together in the superhit Ranjith Sankar-directed film, "Varsham," in 2014. They have also acted together in the Malayalam films, "Jawan of Vellimala," "Big B" and "Bus Conductor."

"Happy to come together with Mammootty Ikka again after nearly 2 years. On location for Johnny Antony sir's Thoppil Joppan & playing a super fun med school student Mariya! [sic]," Mamta posted on her Facebook page.

The film also stars Andrea Jeremiah, who pairs up as Mammootty's love interest during a particular phase of his life. The family entertainer was earlier said to have another heroine in the lead role and Mamta will be paired opposite director-turned-actor Jude Anthony Joseph in the upcoming movie.

In the Johny Antony-directed venture, Mammootty plays the titular role of Thoppil Joppan, who is a Kottayam achayan (a term used to address elder males belonging to the Saint Thomas Christian community in Kerala). The movie is expected to create a storm upon its release as the megastar has earlier shined in achayan roles in the movies "Kottayam Kunjachan" and "Nasrani," among others.

"Thoppil Joppan" has been scripted by Nishad Koya and also stars Renji Panicker, Harisree Ashokan, Alencier Ley, Suresh Krishna and Saju Navodaya in pivotal roles. It is being co-produced by Noushad Alathur and Jeevan Nazar under the banner of Grand Day Films Corporation.
