Dharwad: District in-charge minister Vinay Kulkarni has instructed officials to ensure that the de-silting of lakes and tanks is completed before the onset of monsoon.
Chairing a meeting with officials to review drinking water supply and drought management in the district at the deputy commissioner's office here on Tuesday, Kulkarni said that executive officers should personally visit all the lakes and tanks and supervise the progress of the work.
He instructed them to conduct a proper survey of tanks, mark the boundaries, remove encroachments if any, and ensure smooth flow of water.
Deputy commissioner P Rajendra Cholan informed that a fund of Rs 20 lakh has been released to take up drought relief works at the taluk level.
He asked tahasildars and taluk panchayat officers to submit utilization certificates. He also ordered officials to submit a report within three days on the loss and damage caused to properties in villages due to heavy rain and gusty winds last week and ensure that the right victims are compensated.
Zilla panchayat CEO Sushma Godbole and other officers were present. The minister released a booklet brought out by the department of information and public relations on the achievements of the state government in the past three years.
