Mob attacks police station in Jamnagar, 19 arrested

On Monday evening, the A-division police had arrested Dinesh Choti and Vinod Bhanushali in a drunken condition and Bhupat Bhanushali with two bottles of liquor. They were brought to the police station for questioning.

Rajkot: Utter lawlessness prevailed in Jamnagar city on Monday midnight when a group of nearly 35 people laid siege to a police station to release three persons caught for drinking liquor.
On Monday evening, the A-division police had arrested Dinesh Choti and Vinod Bhanushali in a drunken condition and Bhupat Bhanushali with two bottles of liquor. They were brought to the police station for questioning.
"At around 12:30am, a mob of around 35 people barged into the police station and started ransacking the seized vehicles kept in the compound.
They also tried to forcibly take away the three accused who were sitting in the police station officer's room," said a senior police official.
The mob also damaged the furniture and policemen had to use lathicharge to control the fury. All the attackers are residents of Digvijay Plot in Jamnagar. Of the 35, 19 persons were arrested.
PSO Tapubha Jadeja lodged a complaint against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension), 225 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension of another person, 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharging of public functions) and rioting among others.
Choti had earlier been arrested for gambling and under prohibition law.
