Silchar: Heavy rain in southern Assam, including in the Barail hill range, over the past 48 hours triggered landslides in a number of places along the Lumding-Silchar hill section of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).
In some places, the railway track has sunk. NFR authorities cancelled services of all trains in the section and some trains have been controlled.

The Silchar-Kolkata Kanchenjunga Express didn't leave Silchar during the day, an NFR official said on Tuesday.
Sources said the heavy downpour triggered landslides in at least three places in the Dima Hasao hill district.
Soil, mud, boulders, trees and debris came down the Barail hill on the track between Mahur and Jatinga-Lampur, and in another place between New Haflong and Jatinga-Lampur. Soil was washed away from under the tracks in those places.
Railway engineers and workers have been engaged in restoration of the route on a war footing, NFR sources said. Authorities have cancelled train services on this route until tracks are restored.

Meanwhile, landslides occurred in many places on the road connecting Haflong with Silchar and Lumding, cutting off the Dima Hasao district headquarters from the rest of the region.
In view of the heavy rainfall, the Dima Hasao district administration has issued a warning and asked people not to come out of their houses. However, a woman was washed away by the swelling water of the Mahur river on Tuesday.
In Silchar, rainwater inundated most areas of the town.
