Southern districts record over 90% pass

Madurai: Many southern districts recorded a good pass percentage in the plus two examinations this year, while some bettered their last year's performance.
In most districts, students in government schools performed as well as those in private schools, with almost all students who sat for the examinations passing. Twenty three government schools in Virudhunagar had 100 per cent pass, while 18 in Tuticorin and 14 in Ramanathapuram also achieved this.
In Theni district, 63 of the 119 schools who sent their students for the public examinations were government institutions; 15 of these had 100 per cent pass.
In Ramanathapuram, there are 67 government, 32 government aided and 30 matriculation schools, of which 14 government schools and 27 private schools recorded 100 per cent pass. This district had a total pass percentage of 95.04 per cent, which was 0.38 per cent more than the last year figure.
Eighteen government schools in Tuticorin registered a 100 per cent pass and the district excelled with an overall pass per centage of 95.47. V Nivetha of Sivakasi Lions Matriculation School topped her district with 1,189 marks. M S Surya Prabh, a student of Kanchi Sri Shankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, topped her district by scoring 1,182/1,200. In Theni, D Dharani a student of Melapettai Hindu Nadar Uravinmurai Matric Higher Secondary School, scored 1,184 and came first in her district.
