Writer K.S. Bhagavan, who is keen on contesting the elections to the Legislative Council from the South Graduates’ constituency as an Independent, launched his campaign here on Tuesday.

He met members of several Dalit groups, backward classes and progressive organisations and sought their support. Later, addressing media, Mr. Bhagavan, who had received several death threats for his alleged statement on the Bhagavad Gita, claimed that he has the support of several organisations and rational thinkers. He expressed displeasure over industrialists and businessmen entering the Upper Houses in the country, and said that he will uphold democratic values besides fighting corruption, if elected. According to Shantharaju of Dalit Welfare Trust, Mr. Bhagavan will perform a puja to the statue of Mahishasura at Chamundi Hills on Wednesday and later file his nomination papers.
