Traffic on the arterial Grand Southern Trunk Road was crippled between Guduvanchery and Chengalpattu for a long time on Tuesday afternoon. Vehicles heading out of Chennai towards Tiruchi were caught in the massive pile-up.
Sources said that a minor accident took place near the toll plaza of National Highways Authority of India between Paranur village and Chengalpattu town on GST Road – NH 45. This resulted in the traffic pile-up that lasted for more than two hours.
A dauting task
Vehicles occupied service lanes of the highway all the way between Guduvanchery and Chengalpattu. Traffic police had a daunting task regulating flow of traffic. A government bus, a private bus and a car were involved in a collision near the toll plaza and though no casualties were reported, it took a long time for the police to remove the vehicles involved in the accident from the spot. Further, another accident in Guduvanchery added to the problems, police added.
