Hyderabad: Amberpet police apprehended AIMIM leader Syed Safiullah for murdering the husband of his step-daughter, with whom he was allegedly intimate. The charred body of the victim, who went missing from the city on May 13, was found in a road-side pit at Annasagar in Mahbubnagar on Monday.
The victim, Md Ismail, was a juice stall owner from Golnaka in Amberpet.
Safiullah is the step-father of Ismail's wife. After leaving the house on May 13 night, Ismail went missing and his family members lodged a complaint with the Amberpet police on May 15.
On Monday, Amberpet police received information from Annasagar police station about a charred body of a male found in a road-side pit. Amberpet police showed photos of the body to Ismail's family and subsequently they went to Mahbubnagar government hospital's mortuary. "The family members identified the body at the mortuary," a source from Amberpet police station said.
Meanwhile, police, based on the cell phone data of the victim, apprehended Amberpet division AIMIM leader Syed Safiullah. On interrogation, Safiullah confessed to have murdered Ismail with the help of four associates on May 13. "Safiullah called Ismail through the other accused to meet at TV Colony in Amberpet on May 13 night to discuss some issue. After Ismail arrived there, Safiullah asked him to get into his car and the other accused strangled him to death. After the murder, Safiullah got out of the car and the others drove to Annasagar area in Mahbubnagar and burnt the body using petrol," the police source said.
"Safiullah's second wife, Fareeda, 40, is the mother of Ismail's wife. Recently, Ismail became intimate with his step-daughter. He hatched a plan to eliminate Ismail," police added.
Safiullah's mother unsuccessfully contested from Golnaka ward during the GHMC elections as an MIM candidate. Safiullah and a few accused were in police custody and the Amberpet police were waiting for Annasagar police to transfer the murder case to arrest the accused. The victim's body was handed over to family.
