Three arrested for kidnapping bootlegger
Nagpur: Lakadganj police have on Tuesday arrested three, identified as Hyat Ali, Harshal Walekar and Tauseef Ahmed, for their alleged role in the kidnapping of 28-year-old Rajendra Kirad, who has several offences of bootlegging against him. The mastermind, gangster Sumeet Chintalwar, who was released from jail around a fortnight ago, is still at large.
The kidnapping is learnt to have taken place over an old rivalry.
The culprits had summoned Kirad to a place near a liquor bar at Sakkardara. It’s learnt that Kirad and the kidnappers first enjoyed liquor at the bar before heading towards Hinganghat in Wardha district. Police said Kirad, who is a part of Chintalwar’s network, had claimed that he was later whisked away in a car to Wardha on Sunday and then forced to sign a delivery note and TTO form meant for transfer of ownership of a vehicle.
Initially, Kirad had informed his wife Archana regarding his whereabouts. He had also informed her about the so-called kidnapping. Kirad told his wife that Chintalwar and his accomplices were also torturing him to settle a dispute. When Kirad did not return home, his wife approached Lakadganj police station with a complaint.
Senior PI Satyavan Mane of Lakadganj police station said Kirad and Chintalnar were friends and probably also partners in illegal activities. “We have learnt that Kirad was not able to settle some monetary dues with Chintalnar. They were having a rift over this. Chintalwar wanted to settle the score by transferring a four-wheeler belonging to Kirad in his name,” he said. PI Mane said they will nab the kingpin of the gang soon.
