Pune: After the Pune police solved many cases of thefts with the help of CCTV footage in the recent past, the thieves have now found a new way to dodge the arrest.
In a theft on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, some robbers made away with a digital video recorder (DVR) linked with two closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras from a wine shop in Kondhwa after stealing 10 liquor bottles and cash.

The incident occurred at Wadkar wines in Shiv Ganga Complex in Kondhwa. "The suspects gained entry into the shop and stole 10 liquor bottles worth Rs 7,900, Rs 10,000 cash and DVR worth Rs 2,000. They fled after breaking the locks of a safety door and shutter with a sharp weapon," police said.
The incident came to light on Monday around 7am when a building resident contacted the wine shop owner Ganesh Wadkar (44) from Bibvewadi.
A Kondhwa police officer said, "Wadkar had installed two CCTV cameras inside and outside the shop. But the burglars conducted a recce and committed the crime and walked away with the DVR to dodge arrest."
He said an inspection of the shop revealed that there are no CCTV cameras in the building. "We are conducting technical investigations and checking criminals on police record for now," the officer added.
