Unlike previous years when students got multiple options to switch colleges after subsequent merit lists were published, this year onwards, first year junior college aspirants would only get one betterment option.

Centralised Admission Process (CAP) committee members, who made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday, said that henceforth, it would be more important for students to select their choice for colleges wisely while filling admission forms as there would be little scope for change.

Ramchandra Jadhav, deputy director of education, Pune, who is heading the CAP committee, said that the decision has been taken by the government to ensure that the admission process is completed within a specific time period. “Last year, the entire admission process had stretched for a long period of time as students kept switching to other colleges and thus, seats kept on getting vacant. Many colleges, whose seats were filled after the first or second rounds, complained of empty seats after the final rounds,” Jadhav said.

“This year, the state government has issued instructions to ensure that only three rounds are conducted within which admissions have to be completed. Hence, there shall not be more than one option for betterment from this year,” Jadhav added.

“Students should now ensure that they check last year’s cut-offs and only then fill their choice of colleges realistically. If they fill in those colleges for which they may not qualify based on results or fill in colleges randomly, it would be difficult for them to get a college of their liking. Since betterment options are limited from this year, students might regret it later,” said Meenakshi Raut, assistant director of education, Pune.

Festive offer

CAP committee members also made important announcements about changes in this year’s FYJC admission process like compulsory online admissions even for quota seats, change in in-house quota eligibility and automatic surrender of unfilled quota seats by colleges to CAP after the end of three admission rounds.

Declaring the admission schedule, CAP committee members said that for 10 days after the declaration of results, the first and second part of the admission form could be filled online at http://pune.fyjc.org.in. Junior colleges can collect application forms from students till the 11th day for in-house quota, management quota and minority quota admissions.

“On the 12th day, junior colleges have to display the merit list for quota seats and upload them on their website. On the 13th and 14th days, junior colleges would be given a link to working days to update admissions under quota. During the same period, students who have given applications for the central admission process can cross-verify information provided and provide corrections if any. The first merit list of centralised admission process would be declared on the 18th day after declaration of results,” Jadhav said.

Students have been advised to confirm their provisional admission on payment of Rs 50 according to the first merit list or else, they would not be considered for subsequent rounds of admissions. Asked about the fate of those students who fail to fill up forms or do not confirm admissions, Jadhav said that the CAP committee would not be responsible for such students and the state government would take a decision on their fate after three rounds of CAP admissions.
