General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Kisan Tehreek, Ghulam Nabi Malik Monday asked state government to provide compensation to the farmers whose fruits and other things got damaged by heavy hailstorm in the district.Addressing a news conference here at Anantnag, Malik according to KNS correspondent said that the state government should depute teams to these areas to access the damage caused by heavy rains and hail storm. He said that the farmers and fruit growers suffered a huge loss due to the hailstorm in the South Kashmir a few days ago. “I appeal the state government to redress the sufferings of farmers and fruit growers who suffered tremendous loss due to hailstorm and heavy rains in the district so that they could feel a sigh of relief,” he said.Malik told reporters that keeping in view the current situation demands, the state government should provide 100 per cent subsidized agricultural required pesticides and other basic things to save the orchards for future.“Crop insurance scheme for Kisan should be immediately implemented with special emphasis on horticulture,” he said, adding that the announcement made by the government to waive off 50 per cent of the KCC loans for the smallest and most vulnerable farmers should be implemented as well.Pertinently, a few days ago, the heavy hail storm during the night damaged apple orchards in several areas including Dooru, Verinag , Shangas Brakpora Dinpowa, Gopalpora, Bonadialgam, Kokernag, Pahalgam, Kamad and other villages of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
