CEPT student receives Charles Wallace India Trust scholarship
AHMEDABAD: A student from the city- based CEPT university- Mitraja Vyas, Senior Researcher at Design Innovation and Craft Resource Centre (DICRC) of the institute here has received a research scholarship from the Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT) and Simon Digby Memorial Charity (SMDC) to conduct a short research project in the UK from May 23 to June 11.

The research project titled “Vernacular Furniture of Gujarat” is an inquiry into history of vernacular furniture of the region, and its significance in the socio-cultural context, said a statement from the CEPT.
The study will focus on selected pieces of vernacular furniture of Gujarat among 142 furniture items housed at the 'Indian objects' collection at the South Asian Decorative Arts and Craft Collection (SADACC) Trust at Norwich, UK, it said.
The CWIT and SDMC research on Vernacular Furniture of Gujarat has transpired from the ongoing year long international collaborative project - Vernacular Furniture of North-West India - between DICRC, CEPT University of Ahmedabad, India and the SADACC Trust, Norwich, UK, which initiated in December 2015, said the statement.
An exhibition showcasing the progress of this project will be held at the SADACC Trust. Alongside the short research program, Mitraja will also deliver a lecture on Vernacular Furniture of North-West India, at the Norwich University of Arts, UK, and the Coventry University, UK.
Getting associated with aforesaid universities and organizations, will not only strengthen their institutional ties with DICRC, CEPT University, but also create newer opportunities for further collaborative projects between India and the UK, said the statement from CEPT.
