One undertrial prisoner escaped from the custody of the police while being brought to Warangal Central Prison from the Nampally Courts in Hyderabad on Monday.

According to the police, the prisoner N. Suresh was being brought in an RTC bus by escort police. At around 3 p.m. when the bus reached Yashwantapur near Jangaon, he requested for stopping of the vehicle, saying he wanted to attend nature’s call. Getting down, he went inside the bushes and slipped away from the police standing behind him. The police fired three rounds, but in vain. The 40-year-old prisoner belonged to Nellutla village of Lingala Ghanpur mandal in the district and was accused in 21 criminal cases, including two murder cases. He was convicted for life imprisonment in one murder case that took place at Navipet in Nizamabad district in 2012 and was serving sentence since then.

Speaking to The Hindu , Warangal city police commissioner G. Sudheer Babu said he was transferred from Chenchalguda Jail to Warangal Prison on administrative grounds in 2013 and was here since then. The police formed special parties and launched a search.
