Her father works in a graveyard and mother passed away when she was only five. Her relatives treated her badly, yet Sumitra managed to score 493 marks. She has been living at the Bosco Rainbow Home for the past three years. “Sumitra is very good in studies. She wanted to try computer engineering but with these marks, she plans to take up commerce. She’s creative and good in arts and sports too,” said Sr. Leena D’Costa, management coordinator, Bosco Rainbow Home.
Swathi J.S., daughter of Sidde Gowda J.D., a daily wage worker with the Department of Telecommunications, moved to her grandparents house in Hassan to pursue studies. A student of CKS English School, she stood second in the State by securing 624 marks. She scored 100 in all subjects except Kannada (second language), in which she scored 99. Her mother Latha is a homemaker.
Kavya S., who scored 492, is also from Bosco Rainbow Home. “She’s very disappointed with her marks as she hoped to score 90 per cent. Her father left home when she was very young and they don’t know if he’s alive. Her mother, who is sick, works in a government office and manages her two daughters’ expenses. She’s from a very poor background and has always been very serious about her studies,” Sr. Leena said.
